I'm Still Here
It has been a number of weeks since my last post. Sorry about that. My story is that I was sucked into the work vortex and I'm sticking to that story. With the economy in turmoil, I thought it was best to get my head down and make some money and keep the guys at head office happy. You didn't miss much anyway. The weather has been typical Scottish weather for spring (lots of rain). I did manage to tidy up the greenhouses and organize to have the garden dug over (see above). If you look carefully, you can see the rhubarb at the end of the vegetable patch, throwing out its first hopeful leaves. Rhubarb crumble later? I think so.I have two tomato plants stuck into their grow bags in the smaller greenhouse. I am planting Scottish variety Ailsa Craig this year. Let's see if it copes with cold and low light levels. I have to replace some MORE glass in this greenhouse. The door blew off last week. I'll get it done after I finish writing this. You know how much I love re-glazing bits of the greenhouse! We don't have to worry about low light levels TODAY. Today is gorgeous! See how dazzlingly white my towels are? Those are the ones you sent Mom. Thanks! Today there are only the fluffiest of small clouds in the sky that cause no dark spots to the day and more importantly, hold no rain! I got all the laundry out on the line and had some time in the greenhouse. In these pots and trays I've got some courgette (zucchini) pumpkin, cucumber, climbing beans, broccoli and two varieties of lettuce started. I found some old corn seed so I thought I'd see if it germinates. If it does, then I may have enough for a couple of small rows. I've also got the ever present sweet peas started as well. I soaked the seed for two days before sowing in the greenhouse to aid germination. There were some old marigold seeds lurking. I sowed those too. They deserve a chance in this year's growing season. No sign of mice in the greenhouse YET. I have been quite good about mouse prevention in the past year. Any seed or bird food has been kept in mouse proof containers. If there is no food mice are less likely to hang out in there. If we have a second day of nice weather, I may plant peas (they're very frost hardy) and get some potatoes in the ground. Heck, I may even mow the grass.

SMB Marketers Abandoning Traditional Ads
eMarketer reports that according to a poll of U.S. marketers by Bredin Business Information, the primary challenges in marketing to American small businesses are funding new projects, growing the business with limited resources and increasing awareness. In addition, marketers say the outlook for small business marketing has changed in 2009. They are increasing their online activities, becoming more focused and conducting segmentation research to better target their customers. It is no surprise that the local online marketing space is where many small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are moving their efforts -- and their marketing investment. It's apparent that digital marketing has gained increased adoption at the expense of legacy advertising approaches -- in particular yellow page directory listings and direct mail coupons. The leaders in both forms of mass-media publishing failed to migrate their value proposition to the online model.Clearly, in 2009 more savvy SMB marketers will abandon traditional advertising that delivers a consistently low return on investment. Search engine marketing will garner the most converts. Social media marketing and search engine optimization practices will also increase in adoption.Borrell Associates estimated SMBs invested $7.4 billion on local online marketing in 2008. That figure accounted for 11 percent of all SMB marketing spending, and more than one-half of total U.S. local digital spending, including Website development.

Censorship Boards for Conservative Media
Brannon Howse welcomed Bob Unruh, a reporter for WorldnetDaily, to discuss numerous issues relating to health, the media and the Internet. They included: --Senate Bill 909 has just been introduced. This is the Senate version of the Hate Crimes Bill, House Resolution 1913, which passed in the House of Representatives yesterday. --A proposal to set up accountability committees that would attempt to keep local radio stations and their talk programming in "balance" --Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas openly disagrees with the Fairness Doctrine. --Senate Bills 773 and 778, the Cyber Security Act of 2009, whereby the president would have the right to shut down the Internet under whatever circumstances he deems to be an emergency --Approximately 36,000 deaths occur each year from the common flu, yet little is said about it. At the same time the swine flu situation is being called a pandemic when only one person has died from this to date. Brannon and Bob discuss the possible reasons for this reporting imbalance.

WHO says up to 2B people might get swine flu
By ALEXANDER G. HIGGINS and ELIANE ENGELER 5/7/09 GENEVA (AP) — Up to 2 billion people could be infected by swine flu if the current outbreak turns into a pandemic lasting two years, the World Health Organization said Thursday. WHO flu chief Keiji Fukuda said the historical record of flu pandemics indicates one-third of the worlds population gets infected in such outbreaks. Independent experts agreed that the estimate was possible. In Mexico, the hardest hit country so far, high schools and universities opened for the first time in two weeks as the governments top health official insisted the epidemic is on the decline. All students were checked for swine flu symptoms and some were sent home. If we do move into a pandemic, then our expectation is that we will see a large number of people infected worldwide, Fukuda said. If you look at past pandemics, it would be a reasonable estimate to say perhaps a third of the worlds population would get infected with this virus. With the current total population of more than 6 billion, that would mean an infection total of 2 billion, he said, but added that the world has changed since pandemics of earlier generations, and experts are unable to predict if the impact will be greater or smaller. We dont really know. said Fukuda. This is a benchmark from the past. Please do not interpret this as a prediction for the future. Chris Smith, at flu virologist at Cambridge University in England, said the 2 billion estimate was possible. That doesnt sound too outlandish to me for the simple reason that this is a very infectious virus, Smith told The Associated Press. Youre talking about a virus that no one in the population has seen before and therefore everyone is immunologically vulnerable. Therefore its highly likely that once it starts to spread, people will catch it. And since the majority of the worlds population are in contact with one another, youre going to get quite a lot of spread. John Oxford, professor of virology at St. Barts and Royal London Hospital, agreed. I dont think the 2 billion figure should scare people because its not as though 2 billion people are going to die. The prediction from WHO is that 2 billion people might catch it. Half of those people wont show any symptoms. Or if they show any symptoms, they will be so mild they will hardly know theyve had it. Fukuda said it also is impossible to say if the current strain of swine flu will become severe or mild, but that even with a mild flu, from the global perspective there are still very large numbers of people who could develop pneumonia, require respirators, who could die. A mild outbreak in wealthier countries can be quite severe in its impact in the developing world, Fukuda said. People react differently to the flu depending on their general state of health and other factors, he said. Some younger people in the Southern Hemisphere may be more vulnerable because of poor diet, war, HIV infections and other factors. We expect this kind of event to unfold over weeks and months, Fukuda said. Really if you look over a two-period that is really the period in which you see an increase in the number of illnesses and deaths during a pandemic influenza. So far the swine flu virus has spread to 24 countries. Mexican dance halls, movie theaters and bars were allowed to fully reopen Thursday after a five-day shutdown designed to curb the virus spread. Businesses must screen for any sick customers, and restaurant employees must wear surgical masks. Fans can attend professional soccer matches this weekend after all were played in empty stadiums last weekend. Mexico confirmed two more deaths, for a total of 44, while 1,160 people have been sickened, up 90 from Wednesday. Despite death tolls and confirmed caseloads that rise daily, Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova insisted the epidemic is waning in Mexico. WHO raised its global total of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2,099, from 1,893 late Wednesday, and said swine flu also has caused two deaths in the United States. This swine flu seems to have a long incubation period — five to seven days before people notice symptoms, according to Dr. Marc-Alain Widdowson, a medical epidemiologist from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now tracking the flu in Mexico City. That means the virus can keep being spread by people who wont know to stay home. Laughing and joking, high school students gathered at the entrance of the National School of Graphic Arts in Mexico City, waiting to fill out forms that asked about their health. Of 280 students entering the school in the first 20 minutes, two showed symptoms of swine flu, including coughing and nasal congestion, said assistant principal Ana Maria Calvo Vega. Their parents were notified and they wont be readmitted without a statement from a doctor saying they dont have the virus, she said. Students at a Mexico City vocational high school were welcomed with a hand sanitizer and a surgical mask. Joyful to see each other again, students embraced and kissed — some through masks. But some worried that the virus could surge back once young people gather in groups again. My 17-year-old daughter is afraid. She knows she must go back but doesnt want to, said Silvia Mendez as she walked with her 4-year-old son, Enrique, in San Miguel Topilejo, a town perched in forested mountains near the capital. Working parents have struggled to provide child care during the shutdown. It forced many to stay home from work, bring their youngsters to their jobs, or leave them at home. Each school, Mexican officials said, had to be cleaned and inspected this week. Complicating the task: Many schools are primitive buildings with dirt floors and lack proper bathrooms. It was unclear how students attending those schools could adhere to the governments strict sanitary conditions. The government promised detergent, chlorine, trash bags, anti-bacterial soap or antiseptic gel and face masks to state governments for delivery to public schools. But some local districts apparently didnt get the word. U.S. health officials are no longer recommending that schools close because of suspected swine flu cases since the virus has turned out to be milder than initially feared. But many U.S. schools have done so anyway, including the school of a Texas teacher who died. In Asia, top health officials said the region must remain vigilant over the threat of swine flu, stepping up cooperation to produce vaccines and bolstering meager anti-viral stockpiles. The virus has so far largely spared Asia. Only South Korea and Hong Kong have confirmed cases. On Thursday, China and Hong Kong released dozens of people quarantined over suspected contact with one of the regions few swine flu carriers. Past experience has been the spur to WHO to make sure the world is as prepared as possible for a pandemic, which would be indicated by a rise to phase 6 from the current phase 5 in the agencys alert scale. That would mean general spread of the disease in another region beyond North America, where the outbreak so far has been heaviest. Im not quite sure we know if were going to phase six or not or when we would do so, Fukuda said. Its really impossible for anybody to predict right now. Officials said the agency was likely to shorten its annual meeting of its 193 member states later this month from 10 days to five because of the outbreak, which it was scheduled to discuss. That is under consideration, Fukuda said. Sure it is possible. Google.com

The Personal CRM Tool for Baby Boomers
Baby boomers have glommed onto Facebook in huge numbers and are using it ways unanticipated by its Gen Y founders. If you don't believe me, believe Lev Grossman in Time Magazine, yes that ancient relic, who announced in the February 23rd issue "Facebook is for Old People." The interesting question is ... Is this truly a new thing or a changing social phenomenon or have the biggest, chattiest, most adaptive and pcoolest age cohort simply found the right technology to facilitate what they've always donep -- start or follow trends or connect and hang out with each other? The adoption curve is a hockey stick. The Accenture Consumer Electronics Survey says boomers posted a 59 percent increase in use of social networks; a rate of adoption 30 timesp faster than any other age group. Facebook's InsideFacebook blog reports that in the last 60 days alone, the number of Facebook users 35+ has doubled to roughly 17.1 million out of the 200 million global users. NPD's Entertainment Trends in America study found that 41 percent, of 11,600 boomers surveyed, visited social networks an average of 8 times in a 90 daypperiod.p Sinceponline interactions aren't unfamiliar to boomers maybe social networking is a natural outgrowth of existing personal and business behaviors. People 35-44 spend more time on the web than any other age group -- 74 minutes per day on average --according to Nielsen's Council for Research Excellence. And 45-54 year olds lead the way in two-way communication spending the most time on e-mail. The datapprovoked "surprise" from Russ Crupnick at NPD and convinced Adam Kasper at Havas Digital "that the growth of Facebook reflects an important demographic shift which is now a cultural phenomenon." For Clara Shih, who created the first Facebook business application which led to write her new book titled The Facebook Era, "Facebook has brought on a transformation in human relationships. Its a sociocultural paradigm shift that is a change in the way humans interact with one another, and therefore a change in the kind and quality of relationships we're able to have across our personal and professional lives." Clara is an over-educated, Silicon Valley tech evangelist so you have to excuse her over-the-top shot at pop sociology. But she identifies Facebook as "personal CRM" which is spot on. She also sees Facebook as a humanizing force that changes the web from anonymous information to a"world wide web of people" were communication is one-to-one, subject to permissions and emotional because you see images and "get to know or get reminded of the person behind the name." This raw human connection engine is my candidate for the driving force behind the growth of Facebook.p But I'm equally intrigued by Clara's notion that "the power of the social graph and knowing who is connected to whom, and how ... where information flows through social filters and get socially distributed" has the power to acceleratepword of mouth marketing, personal referrals and even multi-level-marketing to warp drive. It also potentially changes how we conceptualize, craft, target and deliver messages to penetrate social networks and capitalize on the network effect. Facebook, rather than changing behavior, is a personalpCRM tool to super charge the behavior boomers have always done or wished to do. You can find, connect and communicate with people from many places, times in your life or associations easily and quickly. You can do so actively, by writing, commenting or tagging. Or just be a happy voyeur. You can decide who gets what information, cross-pollinate information or make new connections among the people you know and deposit ideas, news, pictures, video and things you like or care about in a central, universally accessible place for your friends, family and even business acquaintances to access. Facebook makes boomers' lives easier. And while it might freak out our kids to be "friended" by Mom or Uncle Bob, boomers use Facebook differently than their children. They are more reticent to share information, less likely to leave comments and a bit slower to join groups. Some of this reflectspour upbringing and some reflects our limited skills at uploading or cross-platform processing. The challenge for marketers, who themselves have been reticent to use Facebook as an advertising and communication tool, arep... 1.pHow can you present your brand credibly in this environment? What kind of imaging and messaging will resonate with boomers in the moment? How user-centric are you or should you be? 2. Is there genuine, measurable business or customer relationship value in accumulating fans or friends? 3. Will your brand advocates/loyalists use their personal CRM toolpto give you access to theirpnetworks? And if so, willpit pay off?pAre your core customers on Facebook and do they expect to see you there? 4. What's the most sensible and efficient way to test-and-learn on Facebook?

E-mail, Mailing Lists and Other Toys
After reading the 3rd chapter from The Cluetrain Manifesto, the use of the chatroom became clear. It's not just for porn and all the other good stuff. It can be used to help others in a business environment as well as communicating with people from around the world. When Julia says that she rejects chat invitations because she thingks it might turn out to be an orgy-fest, I delightfully agree. Chat rooms have such bad reputations that I haven't entered one in many years. Interestingly, the last time I did enter a chat room was for technical support. I was having problems installing a game on my personal computer therefore I had to get assistance. I decided to visit the company's website and instead of writing down a phone number I was sent to a chat room. I was very sure that the second I clicked on the link, I would have a host asking me what I was wearing. I was surprised to find a very useful human being on the other side of the conversation helping me efficiently. There are many companies offering online help today and many interesting reads that people can view and learn from.Unfortunately, technology can be very annoying too. As with all types of advancements, it can be used for the good of mankind and not. Mailing Lists are the perfect example. I can understand the importance and ease a mailing list can add to someone's daily activities. I mean c'mon, how sweet is it when you can join your favorite bands mailing list and get all their great news on a daily basis? I know I enjoy it. But I had a very annoying experience with it because of Marymount Manhattan College. Toward the end of the summer that passed, I was getting dozens of e-mails in response to some irrelevent subject that students were asking about. I was pissed because I never authorized myself to be included on the mailing list and it took weeks for the school to fix the problem. It will never happen again.Deb brings up a very important discussion about e-mails. The privacy of e-mails is a huge plus for people who like to keep a healthy dose of privacy in their life. With conventional paper mail, anyone sitting around your front door can intercept the object. People from the post office can mishandle your mail and you pay the consequences. With e-mails, you can have a better sense of security which can give people the confidence to write more personal mail. Another important aspect of E-mails was mentioned in the reading. The fact that we can expect a response from mail we sent the same day is revolutionary. With old school mail, it took days, weeks, months for a response to occur. Now that we have electronic mail, people can expect a response in a much shorter period of time. Consumers can get help from their suppliers quickly and suppliers can get feedback from their customers fast also. Everybody in the game becomes a winner. Hooray.
Narrow cervix
1.Doctor told me that my cervix was narrow so will that be a problelm for me to have babies.?
If you have not had cervical surgery, difficulty in inserting a catheter to do an HSG does not indicate a definite cause for infertility. If the man has a high sperm count, then your narrow cervix should not be much of an issue.
2.Does having a narrow cervix mean I will have a hard time having children or maybe none at all?
Good luck pushin babies through there!

An Argentine democrat
A flawed politician of rare integrityHE WAS perhaps the only Argentine political leader of recent times who deserved to be called a statesman. Raul Alfonsin, a lawyer and lifelong Radical politician who died on March 31st at the age of 82, was justifiably seen as the father of his countrys current period of democracy. His victory in a presidential election in 1983 not only marked the end of the regions most vicious military dictatorship, during which at least 9,000 Argentines disappeared. It also marked the first time the Peronist movement was defeated in a free election. Mr Alfonsin won widespread praise for putting the dictators on trial (some were jailed) as well as setting up a truth commission into the political violence and repression of the 1970s. It helped that Argentinas humiliation in the Falklands war had discredited the generals. But when several coup attempts followed, Mr Alfonsin felt he had no option but to halt further trials. That was partly because he had been weakened by his mishandling of the economy. An old-fashioned populist, he failed to understand that drastic reform was needed. When hyperinflation culminated in disorder and looting, he stepped down five months before the end of his term.

How Many Calories in Clubhouse Sandwich?
Filed under: Food and NutritionTo me, nothing says spring quite like long leisurely lunches with friends on warm afternoons. And nothing says lunch quite like a sandwich. Opting for a fresh sandwich loaded with veggies and topped off with whole grain bread over something laden with fat and calories, like a burger, seems like the healthy way to go. And I always give myself bonus points for ordering a salad on the side instead of the standard fries. But are sandwiches always the healthier option? Take one of my favorite -- the clubhouse -- and tell me.

African index launched
HedgeFunds ReviewAn index ranking each of Africa's 53 countries in terms of investment potential has been launched. The Star of Africa is a weighted index based on governance, social capital and Africa's electricity, water (supply, sanitation and irrigation), internet and telecommunications sectors. The index, complied by African Rainbow Consulting, is designed to help investors and entrepreneurs establish which countries offer significant risk or opportunity for successful long-term investment.Topping the index is Nigeria. Despite its poor governance score, the country offers significant scope for improvement in access to water, electricity and ITC infrastructure.Ethiopia ranks second, based on its potential for better countrywide access to water and electricity.Somalia, Eritrea and Chad are the least attractive investment opportunities mainly due to low scores on the governance and social capital scales. The index is based on five key indices. The energy index calculates the potential market size in each country in terms of megawatt hours. It gives information about the potential market size in terms of megawatt hours. It is based on the product of the number of people without access to electricity and the energy poverty line of 50 kg of oil equivalent. The water index outlines the potential for improving access to sanitation and clean water, weighted by population size. It provides information on the potential for improving access to sanitation and clean water supply, weighted by size of population, and the potential for irrigation, weighted by area of potentially irrigable land. The overall water index consists of an equal weighting of the three sub-indicators for sanitation, water supply and irrigation. The internet and telecommunications index maps potential markets for mobile telephone and internet use, PC ownership, factoring in market competitiveness. The social capital index which gives insight into the population's health (40%), education levels (40%) and demographics (20%). A country's social capital can make or break commercial success. The Star of Africa Index uses the term ‘social capital' to represent basic health and welfare in an effort to measure the health of the population, its educational level and discover how motivated the state is to provide adequate healthcare and education, among other factors. The governance index rescales the aggregate of the world governance indicators, covering issues such as corruption, violence, rule of law and ease of doing business. The world governance indicators draw on 35 different data sources and cover 212 countries and territories. Data sources include public surveys as well as expert opinions.African Rainbow Consulting research has revealed that an estimated 497 million people need access to electricity, 47% of Africa's energy use is sourced from biomass, much of which is inefficient and environmentally destructive; 600 million potential customers are waiting for access to improved sanitation; over 36 million hectares in Africa are suitable for irrigation, but are not actually irrigated and 628 million Africans do not have mobile telephone subscriptions with only 6% of Africans using the internet. It believes these facts offer investors opportunities in Africa. Such data is captured and used by the index to help investors target opportunities.African Rainbow Consulting provides intelligence briefings on doing business and investing in Africa. The company focuses its analysis on key sectors that are crucial to long-term, sustainable development: telecommunications and internet, irrigation and sanitation and electricity generation. The organisation was founded to provide investors and businesses with interests in Africa with well-researched information on the 53 countries making up the continent. It is independent of any political party or financial institution.Reports are compiled based on desk research and regular field visits to each region in Africa. African Rainbow's network of contributors includes staff from African universities, government departments, international organisations, non-governmental organisations and others. Services offered include country briefings, country reports, personal briefing sessions, sector focus reports and bespoke consultancy.

How to react to strict parents
Everyone seems to have parents that are stricter than anyone else - or so it can seem for many. While your friends may be allowed out late if you have to stay in and work or be home by a certain time then it can lead to resentment. However the best thing to do is to respect your parents and realize that they are doing it for your own good and because they care and they just want to protect you. Rather than throw a tantrum, the best thing to do is to be mature and see if you can compromise like stay out an extra half hour and behave well and if you do then gradually over time they may relax their boundaries and curfew towards you.
Angelina Jolie
Are New York Times writers reading Liz's & my book? From a recent article about Angelina Jolie and her Carefully Orchestrated Image (which, if she is looking for a supporting band name, in case this whole international film superstardom doesn't work out for her, Her Carefully Orchestrated Image would be a great one. You can have that one for free, Angie!):While all celebrities seek to manipulate their public images to one degree or another, Ms. Jolie accomplishes it with a determination, a self-reliance and a degree of success that is particularly notable. The actress does not employ a publicist or an agent. The keys to her public image belong to her alone, although she does rely on her longtime manager, Geyer Kosinski, as a conduit.[...]But more recently, she has emphasized her philanthropic work, and her growing family. Ms. Jolie, with Mr. Pitt, now has a clan of six. There are three adopted children — Maddox, Pax and Zahara — and three biological children: Shiloh and the twins, Knox and Vivienne. But she cut a very different, wilder figure in Hollywood during her marriage to the actor Billy Bob Thornton. After their divorce in 2003, Us magazine asked Ms. Jolie if she would agree to an interview and be photographed. According to two people involved, she declined — but then offered the magazine another photo opportunity. Ms. Jolie informed it what time and place she would be publicly playing with Maddox, essentially creating a paparazzi shot. The resulting photo, the origin of which was not made public to Us readers, presented Ms. Jolie in a new light — a young mother unsuccessfully trying to have a private moment with her son. Meanwhile, here's what we wrote, about a year ago:Pop culture is overflowing with examples of people who successfully combine advocacy, marketing, and public relations -- they're called celebrities. Few celebrities acknowledge or admit the degree to which they create their own "spin," and not all do it well. And, of course, while celebrities can spin, they cannot control the media [though that NYT article puts the lie to that assumption]. What they can do is decide how and when to release photographs (Suri Cruise's Vanity Fair cover) and give smartly timed interviews in magazines like InStyle, Us Weekly, and People. Look at Angelina Jolie: In the early 2000s, she was Hollywood's "wild child", giving interviews about her bisexuality and fondness for S&M (Lindsay Lohan looks tame by comparison!). Now, Jolie is the beloved mother of a growing family, giving interviews about playdates and humanitarian issues. We're not saying that Jolie is not a loving mother or a dedicated worker for various causes, just that she recognizes how the public reacts to the story of her happy family. With each additional child she has, by adoption or birth, Jolie tells a story about how that child entered her lief and how that child adds to and completes her family. This involves advocating and marketing an element of herself that the public reacts to favorably. As for public relations, open almost any popular magazine and you'll see a photo of Jolie as a proud mother walking her smiling child to school or with her children playing contentedly together on the beach. If Angelina Jolie can do it, so can the library. [p.63-4]Indeed. Perhaps ALA could schedule an advocacy @ your library preconference with Ms. Jolie the next time we're in New Orleans for Annual?Cross-posted at Pop Goes the Library's book blog, which we'd love for you to read. (The blog and the book, that is.)

Breeding ecology of the Little Tern 4: Feeding
The plumage of the Little Tern (Sterna albifrons) during the breeding season shows a prominent black cap on the head and a yellow bill tipped with black (above). The plumage of the juvenile is distinct from that of the adult (below).Normally all the birds would be facing the persistent wind direction, be it morning or evening. Hence, the adults always got into a bit of trouble positioning themselves for landing in the mornings. Fish was sometimes dropped as a result. Passing on the fish to the juvenile were mostly done without problems in the evenings. The juveniles were normally near-hysterical whenever the parent arrived with fish (above). They would wave their wings to attract the attention of the arriving parent. The other juveniles normally remained patient and waited their turns. The parent that was keeping an eye on the juveniles would then fly off to get food for the other chick. Should the other chick managed to snatch the fish, the rightful chick would normally chased it around until the fish was dropped and retrieved it. Originally the chicks were fed with bits and pieces of fish. As the chicks grew they were slowly fed the entire fish caught by the parents (above). The parent bird would hold the fish just behind the head and direct it into the gaping mouth of the juvenile, head first. This would prevent the sharp spines of the fins damaging the throat as the fish slithered down the throat into the stomach. With a larger fish it was not possible to place it inside the gape. The juvenile had to receive the fish, gripping it just below the head. It then had to manipulate the fish so that it was swallowed head-first (below). Courtship feeding, as described earlier (a, b) continued throughout this period when the parents were continuously feeding the juveniles.Input and images by Dr Jonathan Cheah Weng Kwong.

Shocked by abusive language by toddlers!
In a way, we neglect to correct our children when they have wrong attitudes. The way a parent reacts to the child in any given situation determines the child's character, because they copy the behavioral pattern of their parents. I often hear abusive language in my school from toddlers who do not know the meaning yet they know when to use them, its a pity that they picked it from their parents. Parents are supposed to play the role of a teacher, a guide, a friend, along with their role as a parent to avoid the behavior problems in children.
